SLLA Recommended Tools

Language tools we actually use.

No single app does everything. The key is choosing the right tool for the problem you’re trying to solve.

Every tool here has been used, tested, or reviewed by Luca, the SLLA team, or our community. We recommend each one for a specific purpose.

A quick note on affiliate links

Every product link on this page is an affiliate link. If you buy through us, SLLA may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Many of our partners also offer special discounts to our audience.

Those commissions help support SLLA’s free content, but they don’t determine what we recommend.

We’ll always tell you what a tool does well, where it falls short, and who should probably skip it.

Featured tools

These are the tools we’re featuring most actively across SLLA right now.

Featured partner

Langua

Primary job: AI conversation practice, corrections and personalized feedback.

Best for

Learners who need much more low-pressure speaking practice, especially intermediate learners working to make their active language faster and more natural. Langua also has a guided conversational course for A1/A2 learners.

Why we recommend it

Hands-free Call Mode, realistic voices, multiple correction styles, feedback reports, translations, vocabulary review, flashcards and personalized practice.

Not ideal for

Someone whose main need is regular human interaction with a tutor, or someone who wants a rigid textbook-style syllabus to be their entire learning system.

Use code LUCA20 for 20% off.

Featured partner

Lenguia

Primary job: comprehensible input that connects reading, listening, vocabulary and active practice.

Best for

Learners who already have a foundation and want level-appropriate stories, books, articles and podcasts, with vocabulary and follow-up practice built around the content they consume.

Why we recommend it

Personalized stories, content imports, EPUB/PDF support, interactive podcast transcripts, contextual flashcards, spaced repetition, writing, AI coaching and combined sessions.

Not ideal for

Complete beginners. Lenguia itself says there is not yet a zero-to-beginner system and recommends a base vocabulary of roughly 500 words first.

Use code LUCA20 for 20% off.

Useful tools for specific parts of the learning process.

Method

LinguaThor

Primary job: understanding language structure and activating it through Translation³.

Best for

Deliberate learners who like understanding how a sentence is built and then actively reconstructing it.

Why we recommend it

The Translation³ sequence moves from idiomatic translation to literal translation and then A.R.T., Active Reverse Translation, to turn structural understanding into active recall.

Not ideal for

Learners who dislike translation-based work or only want passive immersion and quick gamified exercises.

Use code LUCA20 for 20% off.

Lingophil logo

LISTENING

Lingophil

Primary job: intensive listening comprehension through transcription.

Best for

Intermediate learners who want to get better at understanding natural spoken French, Spanish, German or Italian and are willing to train listening actively.

Why we recommend it

You listen to professionally recorded dialogue, type exactly what you hear, compare it with the transcript, then use detailed annotations and exercises to close the gaps.

Not ideal for

Absolute beginners, video-first learners, or anyone who hates typing. Lingophil recommends roughly A2 or above and says a physical keyboard gives the best experience.

writing

Fluency Write

Primary job: detailed writing feedback plus a long-term record of recurring weak spots.

Best for

Learners who write regularly and want to understand not only what is wrong, but which errors keep resurfacing over time.

Why we recommend it

Each piece is marked up with categories, severity, reasoning and alternatives. The distinctive part is the ongoing “file” that tracks recurring weaknesses and level trajectory.

Not ideal for

Someone who only needs a one-off sentence correction. For that, a general AI tool can already do the basic job.

Consistency

Fluency Streak

Primary job: tracking real language practice, goals and consistency across one or multiple languages.

Best for

Self-directed learners and polyglots who already have tutors, books, podcasts or apps but want one place to track reading, writing, listening, speaking, study time and goals.

Why we recommend it

It works alongside your existing learning method instead of replacing it. It tracks sessions, goals, streaks, stats and multiple languages, with community features layered on top.

Not ideal for

Anyone looking for lessons, vocabulary lists or a complete curriculum. Fluency Streak is intentionally a tracker, not a teaching app.

Apple / iOS Annual: use code LUCA30 for about 30% off the first year.

Apple / iOS Lifetime: use code LUCA25 for about 25% off (one-time purchase).

Android: use code LUCA in the app.

FAQ

Quick answers

Do you earn money from these links?

Yes. Every link on this page is an affiliate link, so SLLA earns a commission if you purchase through it.

Do I pay more because it is an affiliate link?

No. You never pay extra for using our affiliate link. Several partners also give Luca's audience a discount, which we show clearly on the page.

Does commission decide what gets recommended?

No. The point of this page is to match tools to problems, including telling you when a tool is a poor fit..

Should I use all of these?

Definitely not. Start with the weakest part of your current learning system and choose the tool that addresses that bottleneck.
