Have you ever tried to get in shape by going to the gym?

You make the decision that you want to improve your health and fitness, and buy a gym membership to do it.

But then what? You enter the gym, and you suddenly take in all of the options available to you. You need to pick what type of exercise to do, what equipment to use to do it, and how long to do it for. There are so many potential choices to make, that it becomes nearly impossible to make a choice at all. There is an easier, simpler, and more effective way, however.

In gyms, people who want to get in shape hire personal trainers so that the trainers can help guide them through the personal fitness process.

The customers tell the personal trainers what goals they would like to achieve, then the trainers come up with a schedule, diet and exercise regimen that would help the customer achieve those goals most effectively.

The trainer does all of the thinking and worrying about "what to do" so that the trainee can just worry about taking action, and getting results.

Without a personal trainer:

  • You're left all alone, wondering what to do next, and how you'll ever be as fit as you want to be.
  • It's a lot tougher, and you have no one there to keep you accountable.
  • It's also a lot easier to give up, and many, many people without the benefit of personal trainers do give up, often sooner, rather than later.
  • And the unfortunate reality is that if they give up, they'll never get the results they want.

A Personal Trainer for Language Learners

Let's change things up for a second.

Pretend you're no longer a person at a gym, wanting to get in shape.

Instead, you're a language learner, and you want to speak a certain language well.

Instead of going to the gym, you go to the bookstore, or you look online for resources.

And just like the gym was packed full of equipment, the websites and bookshelves you visit are stocked with so many courses, books, and applications that you have no idea where to start.

Maybe you pick an easy, or popular place to start, just like you could at the gym. You manage okay at the beginning, but once it's time to move on to something else, you quickly get overwhelmed again.

Rather than struggling to continue on your own, wouldn't it be great if you could have a language learning personal trainer to help you throughout the learning process?

A language learning personal trainer is someone who can:

  • Help you find the most efficient and effective learning schedule
  • Identify the most useful tools, resources, and methods that will help you achieve your goals
  • Give you worthwhile assignments and "missions", designed to grow your skills.
  • Keep you accountable when you're struggling, and thinking of giving up
  • Use his or her experience and skill to give you feedback on your own skill development
  • Guide you through every stage of the learning process, from absolute beginner to highly advanced
  • Provide encouragement and moral support, whenever you may need it

That would be easier, wouldn't it?

Fortunately, personal trainers for languages learning DO exist. They just go by the title of "language coach" instead.

And I'm one of them!

Why You Need a Language Coach

Before moving forward, it needs to be said that just like you don't necessarily need a personal trainer to get in shape, you do not need to hire a language coach to be a successful language learner.

But if you can relate at all to the struggling language learner in the last section, I believe that hiring a language coach can go a long way towards helping you reach your maximum potential in your target language.

The reasoning for hiring a language coach  is simple:

  • An effective language coach is highly-experienced, and has already achieved many of the results that you want to achieve for yourself.
  • This previous experience, combined with an aptitude for carefully guiding learners through the often-confusing language learning process, means that working with a language coach can help you reach your language goals much faster and much more efficiently than you could on your own.
  • If you want to take the guesswork out of the language learning process, and focus your limited time and energy towards taking action and improving your skills, then finding a language coach is likely the right choice for you.

And this is where I believe we can work together.
